Read, LeaD, Succeed

"To read is to fly: it is to soar to a point of vantage which gives a view over wide terrains of history, human variety, ideas, shared experience and the fruits of many inquiries.”                                                                                                 A C Grayling

Reading Counts

Scholastic Reading Counts! is an incentive based reading program in which students can independently read a book of interest, whether fiction or non-fiction, and then take a short quiz to test comprehension.  This personalized, computer-based program will help our students track their success with the books they read, test their comprehension, and suggest books to match their interests and reading levels.
For our teachers, it will track what books are being read – in and out of school – and provide individualized reports to better gauge student progress over time.
Our school’s Reading Counts (RC) program is a complement to the classroom reading curriculum. It allows students to improve their reading levels at their own pace by reading self-selected novels at home or school in their free time. Not only does the Reading Counts Program serve to improve students' reading ability levels (quantitatively known as Lexiles) over the course of the school year, but it also allows them to achieve personal reading goals independently. (See Quicklinks to take a test or check test information for a particular book.)

Destiny- Our Online Catalog

Destiny, our library management system, is the best way to search for both hardcopy and electronic books. Our hardcopy books are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal System. Our electronic books can be accessed through Destiny via embedded links. All hardcopy books circulate for one week with a chance to renew for two, and reference books are available for use in the media center.

Destiny, our online catalog,  can be accessed from home. This will allow you to see what books we have available in our library at CWMS. You can also see whether a book is Lexiled or has a Reading Counts' quiz. Please refer to the link in the Reading Counts section of this media center web page if you want to check the Reading Counts status or Lexile level of a book not in Destiny.

Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.                           ― Charles William Eliot
